Dr. Barrett is originally from Riverview, New Brunswick but now calls Antigonish, Nova Scotia home. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Francis Xavier University in 1999 and graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 2003.
Dr. Barrett opened Antigonish Chiropractic in 2003 and has been helping, not only the residents of Antigonish Town and County, but also the students and student athletes at St. Francis Xavier University. In keeping with current health care research, he has also been continuing his education by attending regular seminars and conferences on topics such as: rehab for back and neck pain, sports injuries, motor vehicle accident injuries, workers compensation cases and disability management. When not busy at the clinic, Dr. Barrett can usually be found with his wife Angela at the hockey rink watching their son or taking in their daughter's highland dancing competitions.
His goal as a chiropractor is to help you recover quickly from your injury and get healthy again. In addition, he teaches you how to stay healthy so that you can return to your activities of daily living.
Chiropractic involves drug-free, non-invasive manual procedures. Chiropractors utilize the highly refined skills developed during their undergraduate degree as well as four intensive years of chiropractic education.
Chiropractors practice a manual approach, providing diagnosis, treatment and preventive care for disorders related to the spine, pelvis, nervous system and joints. We use a combination of treatments, all of which are predicated on the specific needs of the individual patient.
The goal of chiropractic treatment is to decrease pain and disability and facilitate the earliest possible return to work and normal activity.
A custom orthotic is a device designed to align the foot and ankle into the most anatomically efficient position. By doing so it can help with foot, knee, hip or back pain. To determine if orthotics are right for you, Dr Barrett will do a history of your complaint and a functional / gait analysis.
At Antigonish Chiropractic, we are registered with the Nova Scotia Workers Compensation Board, which means we can assess (including functional assessments), treat and complete 'return to work' programs for our patients who have been injured at work. If you have been injured at work, you can come to the clinic - no referral required, and allow us to help you to return to work in a safe and timely manner.
